Pumpkin Patch (in sweltering heat)

Last weekend we went pumpkin picking - Southern Californian style. Mainly this involved the same as pumpkin picking a la Connecticut just with more concern about the need for sunscreen! Emma (Michael's niece) was with us for the weekend which meant I had 3 pumpkins to "assist" carving. We had a great time and the corn maize, my first, was fab. The kids found their way through in a matter of minutes while Michael had to talk me out of it 20 minutes later. Dignity was not intact.

And after all our carving efforts (which I have to say I felt I was finally getting the hang of), we had to throw out the pumpkins as the heat was causing them to rot. Come to think of it, it explains the lack of carved pumpkins on door steps in the neighbourhood. They knew better!
