We are slowly detoxing from Thanksgiving - it was quite the week. I was very happy to get back to the peace and sobriety of the office. I'm hoping the cold sweats will be gone by mid week.
Robin and Emma arrived at the beginning of last week and we celebrated Emma and Papa's birthdays, early and late respectively. Ice cream cake was good! Wednesday, Nelum arrived from San Francisco! Emma had a sleepover with Morgan and Will - thankfully they were all asleep by 9 so we didn't have to stay up later than 5 past.
On Thursday, we had a really relaxing and fun day. Jess showed up mid afternoon from NY and was immediately forced to play copious amounts of flag football with Will. Rumour has it that Nelum was also seen on the football field but I'm not sure there is any photographic evidence to prove this. After eating way too much at dinner, we played Jenga and we may have been a bit too loud/raucous/competitive for the children's sensibilities - at least one had to be led away weeping.
Friday was a fragile day. We sat and watched a rubbish movie in the morning - the children had been told to turn off their television - so stood outside, drooling on the window, glaring at us and telling us to turn it off. So easy to ignore children sometime. We dragged ourselves off the couch to eat - as Nelum had never been to famed California fast food chain IN-N-OUT burger after living here for 3 years, we went for lunch. Because that is exactly what you want the day after eating too much Turkey! Place was packed - apparently it is what you want! We showed Nelum and Jess the fabulous Santa Barbara views - only to discover that the fog was in and you couldn't even see the sea standing on the beach. Good excuse not to get out of the car - I'll send her some photos to prove the sea is there. Eyelids were heavy Friday afternoon but Nelum and Jess soldiered on, taking their "coffee" for a walk around the lake with the children. They returned hours later, all exhausted except for Will - still talking and wanting to play more football.
Friday night we celebrated Nelum's promotion - we are very proud of her. So we had to breakout champagne and cake for the occasion. Morgan made a poster and everything. Rich decided to retire as the evening degenerated in to teaching Morgan bad dancing techniques - although at the time I think we thought we looked pretty damn good!
We packed Nelum back off to San Francisco Saturday morning. The rest of the weekend was spent hiding from Will and his NFL football talk - of which there was a lot, cycling around the neighbourhood in an effort to tire out the children and trying to stay up past 9pm!

Nelum and Jess adding some much needed glamour to proceedings.
And now, with Thanksgiving over, Hannukah and Christmas are just around the corner. Joy. Where's the wine?
