Will had been practicing his singing for days - usually in the early morning hours to the delight of our neighbors - and was very excited about the whole thing. So Michael and I went along to enjoy the festivities - and to peruse the lost and found rail to reclaim all the children's jumpers that had mysteriously disappeared throughout the year.
We arrived early so had plenty of time to people watch. Lots of seats were being "saved" leading to the odd altercation over the etiquette of seat saving. "Graduation" helium balloons and flowers were the de rigueur gifts of the day, many of which were bigger than the actual kindergartners themselves. They also had the added benefit of blocking every one's view who were unfortunate enough to be standing behind them. Much to Morgan's delight, we pulled her out of her her class so she could enjoy Will's kindergarten achievement.
Finally the event started and the herding of cats began. The children stood on stage and sang a couple of songs before each student walked across the stage to shake the teachers hand. With only 70 odd children in the year, time flew. Getting a good photo of Will was pretty tricky in-between all the balloons and smart phones recording the event. From what we can tell, he looked pretty pleased with himself.
The Kindergarten teachers then hosted lunch in their playground for all the families which was a really nice touch - except Will couldn't have cared less whether we were there or not, as someone had a soccer ball and wanted to play. We managed to stuff a couple of bites of sandwiches into his mouth before he was off.
Will has had a great first year of school and seems to have enjoyed it immensely. School ends for him and Morgan tomorrow and they are ready for the summer to begin. They are going to various different camps before we head to England for a couple of weeks in August. After which time, school will be back in. Yikes.
